Intern Position Information

Position Defined:
Post-Graduate Intern: One who performs under supervision campus ministry evangelism and outreach initiatives and program ministry support on a full-time basis (45 hours per week) that a professional would be expected to perform.

Purpose:
To enable a post-graduate student to assist in fulfilling the evangelistic mission of the Presbyterian University Center (PUC).

Support, Supervision and Accountability:
The Intern is a temporary employee of the Presbyterian University Center and is accountable to the PUC Board of Directors through the University Minister subject to PUC policy.  The University Minister supervises and evaluates the Intern.
    Responsibilities:
  1. Design, test, evaluate and re-direct a systematic program that communicates PUC’s ministry of hospitality on campus among students.
  2. Identify new and returning students, contact them personally, follow-up with them regularly, and foster their involvement with PUC.
  3. Support student life by developing mature relationships with students and serving as a mentor in Christian discipleship.
  4. With the University Minister, plan and conduct existing and new program and outreach activities.
  5. Increase participation and attendance at all PUC functions.
  6. Design “Minutes for Mission” or other strategies for telling PUC’s story.  Interpret PUC’s ministry and mission among Florida Presbyterians, giving particular attention to supporting congregations.
  7. Spend at least 20 hours per week outside Westminster House in direct and immediate contact with students “as they are, where they are.”
  8. Maintain regular office hours at Westminster House.
  9. Attend PUC Board and other meetings as directed by the University Minister.
  10. Visit all supporting Presbyterian Church U.S.A congregations and attend worship with them weekly.
  11. Secure $6,000.00 funding support for your work from your home congregation and/or presbytery, as well as from individuals and other sources.
  12. Serve under the authority and supervision of the University Minister.
  13. Work co-operatively with PUC’s Assistant for Administration & Communication and under her supervision in the university minister’s absence or as the university minister directs.
    Personal Qualifications:
  1. Joyful commitment to God in Jesus Christ
  2. Active roll of a Presbyterian Church U.S.A. congregation.
  3. Commitment to collegiate ministry with an understanding of and enthusiasm for this special mission field.
  4. Commitment to the Reformed heritage and tradition of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
  5. Attitude of openness and sensitivity to others coupled with compassion amidst diversity.
  6. Mature, stable, honest with a sense of humor.
  7. Creativity, imagination, intelligence and love.
  8. Organization, planning, and follow-through skills
  9. Willingness to learn.
    Relationships:
  1. Relate and work cooperatively with the University Minister.
  2. Relate to students pastorally as leader, mentor, and facilitator.
  3. Relate to the Assistant for Administration & Communication through the University Minister.
Periodic Review and Evaluation:
Term of service is one (1) year.  A second year of service may be negotiated.  A probationary period of four (4) months will occur from the initial date of service. The University Minister will provide a performance review and feedback at the end of this period.  Pending these reviews, employment may or may not continue.
