Autumn 2008

Dear Friends,

Fall semester is well under way!  Students meet each Thursday for wholesome supper and fellowship followed by stimulating programs.  Welcomed, new faces mingle with others better known.  Two Bible study breakfasts and lunches attract students hungry to explore scripture and share a good meal.  Football tailgate gatherings offer an alternative setting for active young people.  Our student resident core enjoys Tuesday suppers together with time to listen, reflect and learn as Christian disciples.  A monthly faculty luncheon and speaker series draws diverse disciplines from the academy to discuss timely topics.  Open daily, assorted student, university and community organizations appreciate and use our facilities regularly.

In these and other significant ways, God blesses us to serve a remarkable student population and university community at-large with this imperative: Offer good news in Christ at Florida State University.  Since 1935 when Ms. Rachel Wiley began Presbyterians’ witness here, we have embraced our Reformed tradition and uplifted its values for successive generations.  Today’s students—perhaps like none before—need and deserve to hear Christ’s good news and Presbyterian witness likewise.  No work is perhaps more important for building or sustaining a healthy society now than that which the church does in higher education mission fields.  No investment besides that which we make in higher education ministry promises to yield higher returns.

We find increased numbers of students involved with our ministry this year.  More participants with more needs demand more programming and greater facility usage.  Such growth humbles us and we are thankful; but its challenges require us ask for help, too.  Whether as a retuning or as a new Westminster House Friend, will you please contribute to our 2009 Friends Fund? If yes, please print the application below, and return with your gift.

Very truly yours,

Bruce A. Chapman, Presbyterian University Minister
